MEDIA ADVISORY: Final Interviews for Next Grambling President to Take Place Tomorrow with Decision Expected Friday – Mar 24, 2004

BATON ROUGE, La. – Final interviews for the Grambling State University presidency are scheduled for tomorrow afternoon, with the Board of Supervisors for the University of Louisiana System expected to make a decision during its regular meeting Friday.

Both the interviews and the UL System Board meeting will take place in Room 100 of the Claiborne Building in Baton Rouge. The public is invited to attend, but seating is limited. All of the action will be carried live via web-video broadcast and accessible on the UL System’s website at www.ulsystem.net on the home page.

Here is tomorrow’s interview schedule. All times listed are Central Standard Time:
• 1 p.m.: Melvin Johnson (D.B.A., Indiana University); Provost and Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs, Winston-Salem State University
• 2:30 p.m.: Horace Judson (Ph.D., Cornell University); Senior Fellow, American Association of State Colleges and Universities; former president, Plattsburgh State University
• 4 p.m.: Rodney Smith (Ed.D., Harvard University); President and Chief Executive Officer, Ramapo College of New Jersey

In accordance with Board rules, UL System President Sally Clausen will make a recommendation to the Board, and the Board will either accept or reject the recommendation. Both will occur during the Board’s regular meeting at 10:30 a.m. Friday.

The three finalists were among seven contenders for the position who sat for public interviews on the Grambling campus earlier this month. All were among a pool of 49 leaders of higher education and business who applied for the top job in response to a national search.

After holding the temporary position for three years, Acting President Neari Warner announced in January that she would retire rather than seek the permanent presidency.

Note to Broadcasters: In addition to the web-video broadcast, there will be a satellite feed of Friday’s announcement. You will be notified of the satellite coordinates when they become available.
