NEWS ADVISORY – Grambling Legislative Audit to be Released at Thursday Press Conference – Sep 30, 2003

Positive Audit Crucial for SACS Accreditation

GRAMBLING, La. — The results of a Legislative Auditor’s Office report of Grambling State University will be made public at a press conference on the Grambling campus Thursday.

The audit to determine Grambling’s financial stability is considered a crucial step in Grambling’s efforts to have its accreditation reaffirmed by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) in December.

What: Press conference to release results of Legislative Audit
When: 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2
Where: Black and Gold Room, Grambling Student Union, 2nd Floor

Grambling has been on SACS probation since December of 2001. Last year, after the university received its first positive legislative audit in five years, the accrediting body extended the university’s probation but continued its accreditation for “good cause” for one additional year so it could see evidence of progress at Grambling “for a longer period of time.”

A second positive audit on Thursday would be critical to SACS lifting the probation and confirming Grambling’s accreditation.

SACS accreditation is considered to be essential to Grambling’s survival. Without it, Grambling students would be ineligible for federal financial aid. Currently about 92 percent of Grambling students receive such aid.
