The University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors on Friday appointed eight of its members to serve on the Grambling State University presidential search committee.

The members of the committee are: Elsie Burkhalter of Slidell, Edward Crawford of Shreveport, Mildred Gallot of Grambling, student board member and Grambling Student Government Association President Steven Jackson, Jeffrey Jenkins of Baton Rouge, Jimmy Long Sr. of Natchitoches, D. Wayne Parker of Choudrant and Winfred Sibille of Sunset.

According to board rules, the GSU faculty will select a representative to serve on the committee and UL System President Randy Moffett will serve as the non-voting chair. The first meeting of the committee has not yet been scheduled.

Burkhalter, whose two-year term as board chair will end in January, selected the committee, though several board rules on assembling presidential search committees were applied. Board members from districts near the university searching for a new president always serve on presidential search committees, as does the student representative.

GSU is searching for a new president to replace Horace Judson, who resigned in October after five years of service.

Last month, the board appointed Frank Pogue to serve as interim president until a new president is named. Pogue is not precluded from seeking the permanent presidency, and he has not ruled out pursuing it.
