Dr. Sally Clausen issued the following statement this afternoon:

“Our education family mourns the loss of three lives today. We were deeply saddened to learn of the shootings on the Baton Rouge campus of Louisiana Technical College. Our prayers are certainly with the families impacted and the staff and students of the Baton Rouge LTC campus. Unfortunate tragedies such as these reinforce the need to be ever-vigilant when it comes to campus safety. We are all focused on doing everything that we can to keep our students safe,” Clausen said.

Dr. Clausen has offered her support and assistance to Louisiana Community and Technical College System President Joe May.

In addition, the University of Louisiana System convened all campuses this afternoon to discuss safety and security. The meeting of campus leaders was scheduled as a follow-up to last week’s formulation of an Emergency Preparedness Steering Committee designed to strengthen student safety and discuss implementation of the text-messaging alert system funded by the Board of Regents.
