UL SYSTEM STATEMENT: NICHOLLS PRESIDENT RESIGNS

Nicholls State University President Bruce T. Murphy informed the Board of Supervisors for the University of Louisiana System of his decision to transition from the presidency. His tenure as the university’s fifth president will end effective Dec. 31.  Dr. Murphy, who plans to engage in other strategic initiatives in higher education, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve the university.

“We are grateful to Dr. Murphy for his service to Nicholls State University. Under his leadership, Nicholls’ faculty and staff enhanced rates of student success, achieved extraordinary progress in accreditation, and solidified the institution’s financial disposition,” UL System President and CEO Jim Henderson said. “An institution with a rich history of serving the people of Louisiana’s Bayou Region, Nicholls is positioned for significant growth. The Board is committed to identifying a successor who will nurture a university culture centered on student access and success, academic innovation, and community engagement.”

UL system Board Chair Al Perkins will appoint a presidential search committee to conduct a comprehensive search that engages Nicholls’ students, faculty and staff as well as the Houma-Thibodaux community and the Nicholls State alumni network. Information regarding the search will be posted on ULSystem.edu/NichollsSearch as it becomes available.
