NEW BOARD LEADERSHIP SELECTED

The Board of Supervisors for the University of Louisiana System elected new Board leadership during their regular Board meeting. New Board officers are Chair Elizabeth Pierre and Vice Chair Jimmy Clarke. Chair Pierre selected Brad Stevens as parliamentarian. Pierre lives in Monroe and previously served as vice chair and parliamentarian.  Clarke lives in Lafayette and previously served as parliamentarian. Stevens lives in Hammond. Board officers serve a yearlong term with a maximum of two consecutive years. 

Past Chair James Carter resigned from his System Board service in October after receiving a gubernatorial appointment to the Board of Commissioners of the Port of New Orleans.   

STOKES JOINS UL SYSTEM BOARD

Today marks Julie Stokes’ first meeting as a member of the Board of Supervisors for the University of Louisiana System.  

“I’m honored to be a part of this Board and look forward to getting to know all of you,” Stokes said. “Trying to get quality education to the people in this state in the most efficient way possible–I’m honored to be a part of it.” 

After serving seven years as a state representative, Stokes launched Flame Consulting LLC to continue advocacy, civic engagement, policy and charitable projects. She also founded Stokes & Associates, Inc., a vocational rehabilitation and life care planning endeavor where she currently serves as vice president and chief financial officer. 

She was appointed by Governor John Bel Edwards to represent the 1st Congressional District. UL System attorney Brandon Decuir administered the oath of office.

As a reminder, the Universities of Louisiana For Our Future Conference will be held March 10 – 11 in Natchitoches. Registration will be capped, so we encourage you to register early if you are interested.  

Conference programming will center around three tracks: Core Community: Engaging the student holistically, Core Mission: Fulfilling our purpose through teaching and research, and Core Performance: Operating through a lens of stewardship and strategic growth. We are also introducing two priority themes, diversity and inclusion and modernization and technology, which will be highlighted throughout the event.

Grambling State University: approval of a Memorandum of Understanding with United States Department of Homeland Security.
University of New Orleans: approval of a Memorandum of Understanding-Pathway to Urban Construction Management with Northshore Technical Community College.

ATHLETIC COMMITTEE

University of Louisiana at Monroe: approval of a third amendment to the contract for Mr. Tim Baldwin, Head Men’s Golf Coach, effective November 16, 2021.

FACILITIES PLANNING

Grambling State University: approval to amend its Five-Year Capital Outlay submission to include the project, Campus Access Control.
Louisiana Tech University: approval to enter into a Ground Lease with the Louisiana Tech University Foundation, for the purpose of constructing the Sarah and A.L. Williams Champions Plaza, as authorized by La. R.S. 17:3361.
McNeese State University: approval to enter into a Land Lease for 10 years with ADSOURCE, LLC so they may construct a billboard and in turn compensate the University on a monthly basis for the length of the Lease.
Nicholls State University: approval to enter into a Ground Lease with the Nicholls State University Foundation for the construction of an enclosed batting facility at the Softball Field, as authorized by La. R.S. 17:3361.
Nicholls State University: approval to enter into a Ground Lease with the Nicholls State University Foundation for interior renovations to Stopher Gymnasium, as authorized by La. R.S. 17:3361.
University of Louisiana at Lafayette: approval to apply to the Federal Government for acquisition of, and to acquire at a 100% discount, certain land and buildings owned by the United States of America and operated and maintained by the University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s New Iberia Research Center, as authorized by La. R.S. 17:3351.
University of Louisiana at Lafayette: approval to amend its Five-Year Capital Outlay submission to include Planning & Construction for four projects.
University of Louisiana at Monroe: approval for the naming of the Head Track and Field Coach Office in Brown Stadium to “Charles H. (Charlie Mc) McDonald,” and allow for other naming opportunities in the future for Brown Stadium.
University of Louisiana at Monroe: approval of naming commitments received for the Wally Jones Golf Complex that provided construction funding for this state-of-the-art facility, and allow for one other naming opportunity in the future.
University of Louisiana at Monroe: approval of naming commitments received for the Stangier-Young Leadership Center that provided construction funding for this state-of-the-art facility, and allow for other naming opportunities in the future.
