Friday: UL System Board to Meet at Nicholls in Thibodaux

BATON ROUGE, La. – The Board of Supervisors of the University of Louisiana System will hold its regular meeting at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 5 at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux. Committee meetings at Nicholls will begin at 2 p.m. the previous day, Thursday, Dec. 4.
A complete meeting schedule and agenda are available on the UL System website, www.ulsystem.edu.

At least once a year, the board holds a regular meeting at one of its eight campuses. In addition to system business, board members tour the campuses to experience their unique programs firsthand.

All meetings at Nicholls will be held in the Donald G. Bollinger Student Union.

Among other business Friday, UL System campuses will receive grant awards in the third phase of the system’s service learning program, which combines education with service.

The awards are made possible through a three-year, $1.2 million grant to the UL System from the Learn and Serve America division of the Corporation for National and Community Service.
Total service awards, combined with a required one-to-one campus match, will have yielded a total investment in service-learning of about $2.5 million.
In the first two years of the program, students from UL System campuses logged almost 100,000 service hours addressing some of Louisiana’s biggest challenges in hurricane recovery, education, health care and the environment. A complete list of each university’s winning projects for 2009 will be released Friday.
