Higher Education’s Role in Improving Teacher Quality to be Topic of Seminar – May 29, 2003

Baton Rouge, LA—Improving teaching quality and student achievement in Louisiana and higher education’s role in the effort will be the topic of a seminar at 5 p.m. today at the Claiborne Building.

National leaders from the Education Trust and the National Association of System Heads will address members of the Board of Supervisors for the University of Louisiana System. Education leaders from the Board of Regents, the Louisiana Department of Education, the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education, universities, school districts and the House and Senate Education Committees have also been invited.

The seminar will feature presentations from Kati Haycock, Director of Education Trust, and Jan Somerville, Staff Officer for the National Association of System Heads.

A reception will follow in Room 136.

Between presentations, there will be time for discussion and questions.

The seminar was designed as a professional development opportunity for UL System Board members but was broadened to include other education policy makers.
