New UL System Student Board Member Begins Term

BATON ROUGE – McNeese State University Student Government Association (SGA) President Davante Lewis was sworn-in this week as the new student member of the Board of Supervisors for the University of Louisiana System.

“Student perspective is so important to our work, and Davante brings a lot of student leadership experience to the table,” said UL System President Sandra Woodley.

A senior political science major from Lake Charles, Lewis is serving a second term as SGA President at McNeese.  Last year he served as Chair of the statewide Council of Student Body Presidents.

As a member of the UL System Board he represents the 92,000 students at the system’s nine universities.  In addition to serving on regular board committees, he is a voting member of the Nicholls State University Presidential Search Committee.

“I am thankful for the opportunity to serve in this new capacity. As my mother is a teacher, education has been my issue from the beginning.  My goal is to help convince the state that its best investment is education,” said Lewis.

The Board of Supervisors is comprised of 15 members appointed by the Governor that serve for 6-year terms and one student member selected annually by member student body presidents.
