NEWS ADVISORY – Governor-Elect Blanco to Discuss Cost-Savings with UL System Leaders – Dec 4, 2003

BATON ROUGE, LA – Governor-Elect Kathleen Blanco will meet with University of Louisiana System Board members and university presidents today to discuss cost-savings initiatives and other programs the Board has implemented at its universities.

The Board has already identified more than $1 million in annual savings for natural gas, utilities, computer software, laboratory equipment and other supplies. Blanco is exploring ways to implement similar programs throughout state government. She also is interested in learning more about the Board’s proactive approach to open presidential searches and its presidential compensation policy that bases presidents’ raises on performance and faculty pay.

Blanco’s discussion with UL System leaders will take place as part of the UL System Presidents’ Council meeting, which begins at 5 p.m. and is being held in conjunction with Friday’s UL System Board meeting.
