WHAT: “Home is Where the Music Lives”
New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity Build

WHEN: 7:30 a.m. – 3 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 1

WHERE: Musicians’ Village, 4000 N. Roman, New Orleans, LA 70117

“When our staff learned that New Orleans’ Musicians’ Village was suffering from a lack of volunteers, we thought it a prime opportunity to mobilize efforts to make a difference,” said UL System President Sally Clausen. “What students will learn when participating in this day of service is the volunteers typically get more out of the service than the recipients. These are the life lessons we want to instill in our students.”

Musicians’ Village is a unique New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity neighborhood under construction in New Orleans’ Upper 9th Ward for musicians displaced by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Conceived by Harry Connick, Jr. and Branford Marsalis, once completed it will consist of over 70 single-family homes and the Ellis Marsalis Center for Music.

In addition to organizing volunteers, the UL System plans to showcase the musical talents of its students during the day. Volunteers will be treated to lunch and live music.

Only 100 spots are available for the day of service. Persons interested in participating must register online at www.ulsystem.net. Registration is free and includes lunch. For more information about Musicians’ Village, visit www.habitat-nola.org.

The University of Louisiana System enrolls approximately 80,000 students at Grambling State University, Louisiana Tech University, McNeese State University, Nicholls State University, Northwestern State University, Southeastern Louisiana University, University of Louisiana at Lafayette, and University of Louisiana at Monroe.
