University of Louisiana Board of Supervisors
Dear Board members:
I want to thank you for the opportunity to serve as your President over the past three years. Since I joined the University of Louisiana System in January 2013 we have tackled some of the most critical issues facing our institutions-work which I found both challenging and rewarding.
We were able to accomplish important objectives on behalf of our universities’ faculty, staff and students during a very difficult time. Together, we led merit based presidential searches that resulted in three visionary leaders. We developed an analytics dashboard, the first of its kind in our state, to serve as tool for evidence-based decision making that provided greater accountability and transparency. I am proud of our efforts that developed and implemented a statewide strategy fueled by a strong coalition of higher education leaders that reversed the eight-year trend of budget cuts.
I am also proud of the collective impact that resulted from strategic alliances among the four system leaders and our campus leadership teams. Together we developed and secured passage of the WISE fund, providing much needed resources that will give thousands of students the opportunity to participate in our growing workforce.
Next year will be a critical time for higher education and securing the next leader as soon as possible will be important. To that end, I offer this letter of resignation to the Board to ensure a smooth and productive transition. I look forward to remaining in my role as system president through December 31, 2015, and then will serve in a transitional capacity through March 15, 2016.
It has been an honor and a privilege to serve you, the state of Louisiana, the System’s nine universities and our 90,000 students. I am excited about what is next for me and my future. I am also hopeful that the University of Louisiana System will continue to thrive.
With Warmest Regards,
Sandra K. Woodley
President
University of Louisiana System
