ULS Board Supports the Governor’s Budget

ULS Board Supports the Governor’s Budget – Mar 23, 2007

“It is time to speak with one voice, but we all HAVE to speak.”

Hammond, LA – The Board of Supervisors for the University of Louisiana System expressed support for Governor Kathleen Blanco’s budget proposal that invests $611 million in education today at its meeting at Southeastern Louisiana University.

Below are comments made by ULS Board Member and Baton Rouge Attorney Gordon Pugh:

“This is the first time in my 69 years I have seen a budget proposal of this caliber. Black, white, rich, poor, Republican, Democrat, or Independent – it doesn’t matter. This opportunity transcends differences because it is good for education, and it is good for our state.”

“If one looks at states that are now prospering in education and economic development with low crime rates and a better quality of life – you will probably see that it originates with investments in education. Now is Louisiana’s chance to be the best in all the right areas.”

“We must all get behind the Governor’s budget. Dr. Clausen [ULS President] must work with her fellow system-heads and work with K-12. Every person in education will be affected and must speak out in support if we are going to succeed. It is time to speak with one voice, but we all HAVE to speak.”
